GermanTeam wins GermanOpen and beats the World Champion NUBots with a 4 - 2 !

Friday, April, 21, 2007, 10 a.m.

The Finals! In the morning the Impossibles and the Hamburg Dog Bots hat a game for the second last place. Later the Team Cerberus played the Northern Bites in the small final, the Northern Bites from America won the third place finally. At 2 p.m. the final in the Four Legged League started. The GT took the lead quickly with a 3 - 1 within the first five minutes. Then there was a longer phase of infield fights withing the Germans and the Australians. The Australians, playing in red in the second half, managed to fix some color problems and improved their performance, but could not manage to score more than one additional goal. So the game ended 4 - 2 for the GermanTeam. (DG)

Thursday, April, 19, 2007, 10 a.m.

Second Competition Day. We won our third game of the round robin with a 10 - 0. We also achieved more goals, but they were not counted, because they were scored by carrying the ball over the line, which is forbidden. This was not important, the 10 - 0 was a safe victory, but it will be important against stronger opponents, where every goal counts. The aim to become first of Group B was now very close. The fourth game took place at 4 p.m. Its first half was desastreous no chance was taken to get the ball into the goal, thus the firts half ended with no goal on both sides. Awaken from this, we used the code from the morning for the second half, which worked quite better. In the end we won the game with a 4 - 1. Weaknesses were discovered within the localization, so that the robots shot the ball always next to the goal. Anyway, the GermanTeam is first of its group and will play tomorrow at 11 against team The Cat. (DG)

Wednesday, April, 18, 2007, 3 p.m.

First Competition Day. Today we saw the first games of the round robin. The competition was startet by the current World Champion, the NUBots from Australia, who won their game against Team Chaos with 8 - 0. The GermanTeam had their game against the Northern Bites from the USA and they won with 8 - 0, too, see [Game Results]. In the afternoon we had another game against Team Kouretes from Greece, which we won with 8 - 1. So all the obligatory games of today have been won. One can say that the GermanTeam had made big progress since the beginning of the week on all fields. (DG)

Tuesday, April, 17, 2007, 10 a.m.

Intensive Testing. Today will be the last day befor the competitions. For the whole day there are test games on the schedule. All teams want to take the chance to check improvements and to find new weaknesses in their code. As the teamleader of the current World Champion team from Australia, Michael Quinlan (see picture). Also in other leagues one can see people work alot. We stay excited how the next test games will end. For the evening a reception ceremony was scheduled, where the members of different teams have the chance to get to know each other. (DG) [To picture album]

Monday, April, 16, 2007, 3 p.m.

Setting up. The GermanTeam is warming up. The basic preparations are finished, only the blue of the flags and the goals was changed today so that the robot can recognize them. The GermanTeam concentrated now on the further development of the code. In the focus are improvements for the ball grabbing, the goal shots and the goalie behvaior. For the first time there is also a strategy in the GermanTeam code for opponent player regognition, as was already done by the current world champion. During the day almost all teams arrive. At the team leaders meeting in the evening the most important topics as game plan and rules are being discussed. The two test games against the Harzer Roller from Wernigerode (win) as well as against the Northern Bites, USA (draw) in the evening are middle class, especially the strikers should improve alot. Until late night the regognized error are found and corrected so that the GermanTeam doesn't leave until midnight. (DG)

Sunday, April, 15, 2007, 12 p.m.

Arrival in Hannover. The Aiboteam arrives at the competition area of the German Open at 2 p.m. local time. Nothing new so far, except the fact that the German Open takes place together with the Hannover-Messe. An innovation which could make more good promotion for the RoboCup event and which is scheduled from now on for every year. Another innovation this year is, that the three teams of the GermanTeam - Berlin, Darmstadt, Bremen - fight together from the start. Furthermore it is the first time, that an Australian Team, the current World Champion is participating at the German Open. The Aiboteam supports the Installation and administrates the Four-Legged-League this year, therefore an early arrival was essential. At 6 p.m. both soccer fields are ready, only the two goals are too dark to recognize for the unsensitive camera-sensor of the Aiborobot. During the afternoon the people from Darmstadt arrive. Thus almost all members of the GermanTeam have arrived, only the Bremen people. The planned test game is not taking place this evening. About midnight the teammembers leave, having had a long day. Everybody is excited about what the next week will bring. (DG)
